A Year of Reimagined Heroes: Marvel's Ultimate Universe Celebrates Milestone with Special One-Shot Issue
Jul-27-2024
The new Ultimate Universe from Marvel Comics is reaching its first anniversary this December, commemorating this milestone with a special one-shot issue. This universe offers fresh takes on well-loved heroes like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Black Panther, and the X-Men, along with the team of Avengers. A special issue titled "Ultimate Universe: One Year In #1" is set to celebrate this event, as announced during the Next Big Thing panel at Comic-Con International: San Diego.
Deniz Camp, known for writing Ultimates, takes up the writing for this special issue, though the artist remains unnamed. The one-shot aims to provide an expansive view of the evolving Ultimate Universe a year after the spread of these superheroes, who have been operating out of sight of their enemy, the Maker. This villain was crucial in shaping the history and manipulating the political sphere of Earth-6160, which is the universe's Multiversal code.
Marvel's official description mentions that it’s been a year since the Maker was confined, leaving the Ultimate Universe to be governed by his malevolent council. In this period, heroes worldwide have risen with the intent to mend the fractured world. However, with just one year left before their leader's return, the Maker's Council is launching an audacious scheme to eliminate these heroes. This extra-large one-shot sets up the narrative for the second year in the Ultimate line and will feature the introduction of Ultimate versions of two significant Marvel characters.
The flagship title of this new Ultimate Universe is Ultimate Spider-Man, supported by Ultimate Black Panther, Ultimate X-Men, and The Ultimates, the universe's version of the Avengers led by Tony Stark/Iron Lad and Reed Richards/Doom. This lineup illustrates some notable differences from traditional Marvel storylines.
